COLLEGE LACROSSE: Syracuse dominates game against Hobart
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2008

GENEVA — Watertown native Kenny Nims produced a game-high five points as the second-ranked Syracuse University men's lacrosse team pulled away from Hobart College, 13-5, at McCooey Field on Tuesday.

Nims tallied three goals and assisted on two others for the Orange (6-1), which held on to the Kraus-Simmons Trophy for a second consecutive season. SU has claimed the trophy — which honors former Hobart coach Babe Kraus and Orange coach Roy Simmons Sr. — 21 times in 23 years.

Nims scored in the opening minutes for Syracuse as the Orange scored four of the game's first five goals. But Jamie Kirk and Daryl Veltman netted a goal apiece to get the Statesmen (3-4) within two goals late in the second quarter. Veltman finished with three goals and an assist.

Hanging on to a three-goal lead at halftime, Nims ignited another Syracuse run by scoring twice midway through the third period. Freshman Joel White followed with his first goal of the season, and senior standout Mike Leveille tossed in three more to seal the victory for the Orange early in the final quarter.

Leveille supplied an assist to complete a four-point effort for SU, which has won four straight games. Steven Brooks chipped in two goals and an assist, and Watertown's Greg Niewieroski added a goal.

Syracuse goalie John Galloway held off Hobart in the fourth quarter, making six of his 14 saves in the last frame.
