Renowned international golf teacher Peter Beames spent his first day on the job Thursday as the new Ives Hill Country Club golf professional.

Beames, who is from South Africa and is known for helping the game of Hall of Fame golfer Gary Player, will be providing instruction for golfers throughout the season. He plans to focus on junior golfers, and will hold a clinic for juniors Tuesday mornings at Ives Hill.

Beames, 61, is a former instructor at Thousand Islands Country Club and has taught professionals and amateurs around the world. He's also a former international player. He has recently won worldwide attention for a series of print ads for Ashworth golf clothing. The ads, which feature Beames in Ashworth attire, have appeared in several golf magazines.
