LOWVILLE — Margaret A. Schantz, 83, Lowville, died Friday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where she was a patient.
She was a home economics teacher in the Beaver River and Lowville school districts, and she retired as a Cooperative Extension agent for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County.
Born Nov. 20, 1924, in Lynchburg, Va., daughter of Joshua F. and Esther Cundiff Alvis, she graduated from Longwood College, Farmville, Va.
She married Clair R. Schantz on June 26, 1948, in Lynchburg. He died Dec. 29, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Ann M. and Thomas Schneeberger, Lowville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, David A. and LouAnn, Fort Walton, Fla., Gary A. and Kathryn, Boonville, and Michael R., Lowville; and five grandchildren.
A sister, Doris Stone, died before her.
A private funeral will be held at the family's convenience. Burial will be in Croghan Apostolic Christian Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan.
