GOUVERNEUR — Jean D. Bartholomew, 80, Gouverneur, died Friday in the emergency room at E.J. Noble Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

Mrs. Bartholomew lived in Gouverneur for most of her life. She worked for Simon's Coal Co. and later for J.E. McAllaster Oil Co. as a fuel manager, calculating the distribution of fuel oil, for about 15 years. She and her brother, John D. Davidson, also managed several rental properties.

Born Jan. 20, 1928, in Gouverneur, daughter of Lawson and Margaret Hill Davidson, she graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1946.

She married Donald A. Bartholomew on Oct. 18, 1967, at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Schofield Jr. officiating. Mr. Bartholomew died Oct. 15, 1981.

She was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two brothers, John D. Davidson, Gouverneur, and Dr. James Carl Davidson, Hendersonville, N.C., and a sister, Mary Mead, Prineville, Ore.

A graveside service will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home.
