Mary R. Matos, 92, of 167 Flower Ave. E., died Sunday at Samaritan Keep Home, where she had been a resident since March.

Mrs. Matos operated the California Fruit Market, Malone, with her husband in the early 1940s. She was employed at the Uniform Shop, her family wholesale grocery store and her husband's soda shop, next to Olympic Theater on State Street. She and her husband owned and operated C&D Variety Store, Public Square, in the early 1960s.

Born July 4, 1915, in Koula, Turkey, daughter of George and Helen Calender Ronson, she came to the United States at age 7 through Ellis Island and graduated from Watertown High School.

She married Peter Matos on Oct. 20, 1935, in Watertown. He died Sept. 5, 1965.

Mrs. Matos was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and its St. Barbara Ladies Philoptochos Society and was involved in the church's biannual Greek pastry sale.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, the Rev. Christos and Stavroula, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Dennis and Barbara, Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, Dr. Chris Ronson, Louis Ronson and Nicholas Ronson, died before her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Philip Yanulis officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, where a Trisagion prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 516 Franklin St., Watertown, N.Y. 13601.
