Incarcerated woman pleads guilty to burglary

A former Theresa woman pleaded guilty Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to burglary charges stemming from her involvement in break-ins at the town of Lyme offices and the American Legion post in LaFargeville.

Sarah E. McDonald,20, who is now an inmate at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree burglary.

Sentencing was set for June 16.

She was accused in grand jury indictments of taking part in an October 2006 burglary at the Klock-Smith American Legion Post 1788, West Main Street, LaFargeville, in which more than $1,000 and a bottle of liquor were stolen.

She was accused in a separate indictment of being with Richard J. Massia when he broke into the town of Lyme offices the same month and stole more than $1,000. Mr. Massia pleaded guilty in October to two counts of burglary, including one for the Chaumont break-in, and was sentenced in December to one to three years in state prison.

Miss McDonald was also accused of participating in an October 2006 burglary at the Smith-Savage American Legion Post 583, 105 E. Bronson St., Dexter, and a break-in the same month at Eastern Shore Associates Insurance, 31140 Route 3, Felts Mills.

She had additionally been charged with harboring Nathan L. Lindsay who, according to court documents, she knew was wanted for his role in the burglaries at the two legions. He was later found at Miss McDonald's former residence at 21874 Joyner Road, Theresa.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of third-degree burglary and was referred to Drug Court. After violating conditions of the program, he was resentenced in October to 11/2 to 41/2 years in prison.

In other court activity Wednesday,Keshia M. Hamlin,22, address not available, was arraigned on two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The charges were contained in a grand jury indictment unsealed in court alleging she had and sold heroin and cocaine in early March in Dexter. She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was sent to the PSB on $5,000 bail.
