Hanson helps Lions knock off Spartans
'B' DIVISION UPSET: Cavellier, Monroe, Pfister contribute to softball victory for General Brown

ADAMS CENTER — Lindsay Hanson finished 3-for-5 with a triple as the General Brown softball team surprised first-place South Jefferson, 9-5, in a Frontier League "B" Division upset on Saturday.

Chelsea Cavellier contributed a two-run triple and a single for General Brown (11-9 overall, 6-7 league), Chelsea Monroe had two hits and two RBIs, Karilynn Pfister was 2-for-3, and Kate Darrah smacked a triple.

Allison Hall went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for South Jefferson (14-6, 10-3), and Cassie St. Hilaire finished 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

HOLLAND PATENT 10, COPENHAGEN 2

Breanna Petronio went 4-for-5 with a triple as the Golden Eagles used a six-run third inning to gain a nonleague win over the Golden Knights in Copenhagen.

Chelsey Baker tripled and drove in a run on sacrifice fly for Copenhagen (3-14). Beth Pond also added a triple.

HEUVELTON 12, MORRISVILLE-EATON 0

Heather Johnson struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced as the Bulldogs captured a nonleague victory at the Mudville Tournament in Herkimer.

Johnson also finished a double shy of the cycle and drove in seven runs for Heuvelton (11-5). Samantha Weaver supplied four singles, and Kara Leonard added a two-run double.

BASEBALL

INDIAN RIVER 8, CARTHAGE 0

The host Warriors clinched the Frontier League "A" Division title as Brandon Cavelet pitched a five-hit shutout at Philadelphia.

Cavelet struck out seven and didn't walk a batter as Indian River improved to 12-6 overall, 8-1 league.

Sean Iles belted a three-run homer during a seven-run sixth inning for the Warriors. Jordan Hunneyman finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Jarrod Mattingly and Spencer Busler also contributed doubles.

Carthage fell to 6-11, 5-4.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 8,

GENERAL BROWN 5

Jared Ladue broke a 5-5 tie with an RBI double in the fifth inning, and the Spartans manufactured two more runs in the sixth to gain a "B" win over the Lions in Adams Center.

Ladue finished with two RBIs for South Jefferson (7-9, 6-7). Ben Anaya went 3-for-3 with a triple.

Josh Dieterich was 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles and four RBIs for General Brown (4-13, 2-12).

CANTON 10, GOUVERNEUR 6

Ridge Thorbahn connected for a three-run homer as the Golden Bears beat the Wildcats in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game in Gouverneur.

Mike Murray and James Chase each collected two hits and two RBIs for Canton (7-5, 6-4).

Duane Roberts finished with three hits, including an RBI double, to lead Gouverneur (2-7).

BOYS LACROSSE

CANTON 16, POTSDAM 4

Sam Bradman netted six goals and distributed three assists as the Golden Bears used a big first quarter to drop the Sandstoners in a Northern Athletic Conference game in Potsdam.

Canton (10-5, 9-3) raced out to a 10-0 lead in the opening quarter. David Pynchon supplied four goals and two assists, and Anthony Spadaccini chipped in two tallies and two assists.

Pete Tardelli, Corey Bercume, Dominic Grimberg and Garrett DiTullio each scored a goal for Potsdam (10-4, 9-3).

MASSENA 12, SARANAC LAKE 10

Matt Thompson buried four goals to lift the Red Raiders to a league victory over the Red Storm in Massena.

Taylor Elsner racked up three goals and an assist for Massena (6-8, 4-6), and Josh Centrella provided a goal and three assists.

Keegan Muldowney led all scorers with five goals and one assist for Saranac Lake (7-5, 5-5).

GENERAL BROWN 19, CLINTON 9

Jared Flath scored seven goals and added three assists as the Lions won the nonleague game at Clinton.

Rob Thomas contributed four goals and three assists, while Ben Munk had three goals and Zac VanBrocklin two goals and four assists.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 15, HAMILTON 2

Marc Piche scored six goals as the Spartans overtook the Knights in a nonleague game in Adams.

Bryan Smith added two goals and four assists for South Jefferson (8-8).

GIRLS LACROSSE

GENERAL BROWN 17, HEUVELTON 1

Samantha Roukous contributed a game-best five goals and assisted on another as the Lions hammered the Bulldogs in a nonleague matchup in Dexter.

Maura Bradshaw followed with three goals for General Brown (7-8), and Soo Kim registered eight saves.

Emily Bush tallied the lone goal for Heuvelton (6-9).
