LOWVILLE — A mother and her son were arrested by Lewis County sheriff's deputies Monday after they allegedly promoted prison contraband in Lewis County Jail on June 28.
Joshua J. Sweeney, 23, Beetle Road, was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
His mother, Denise R., 45, same address, was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony; first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The Sheriff's Department alleges that while Mrs. Sweeney was visiting her son at the jail, she passed him two plastic bags containing marijuana and 12 diazepam pills.
She was arraigned in Lowville Town Court and taken to Lewis County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. Her son was arraigned in Lowville Town Court and sent back to jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
