The Watertown Police Department issued 16 tickets in the course of a traffic detail from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday on the 700 block of Arsenal Street.

The detail, which focused on speed and aggressive driving behavior, was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a grant from the state Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

Police issued 10 citations for illegal cell phone use without hands-free devices, a citation for operating without a license, a citation for operating a motorcycle without a proper class license and four citations for speeding.

The goal of such details is to reduce aggressive driving and crashes caused by such behavior. The Watertown Police Department plans to conduct future details on Arsenal Street and elsewhere in the city.
