Not only was Jeff Kloos the biggest boxer on the fight card, but he also provided the lone knockout for the Watertown Boxing Club on Saturday night.
Kloos registered a first-round knockout of Cornwall, Ontario, resident Gary Leger in the masters division of the Showdown in Watertown III at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. The referee stopped the fight in the opening frame, which gave Kloos the victory in his first amateur fight.
Twelve matches took place before a crowd of 250 fans. Chris Sufle was the only other Watertown Boxing Club member to nab a win. He won a three-round decision over Utica's Craig Cymbar in the seniors 160-pound weight class.
"The card was really good," club president John Pepe said. "The turnout wasn't what I expected. I'm not sure what it was. But I was proud of the guys, and we still got lots of support."
Four boxers from Windsor, Ontario, were victorious in their bouts. Toronto's Cedric Parina (112-pound junior) and Arriniio Swamp of Cornwall (175-pound junior) each recorded first-round knockouts.
