The Watertown Black Ice under-17 girls soccer team recently closed out their 11-tournament season and are now recruiting for an under-15 team.

The Black Ice finished with three tournament wins, five second-place finishes and three third-place finishes during their summer season.

The U-17 team boasts incoming seniors Courtney Henry, at Thousand Islands, and Teddi Filiatrault, at Indian River, who were also on Central's scholastic women's bronze medal-winning team at the Empire State Games in late July.

The team, which was started three years ago by coach Judd Reed, is composed of players from the north country and was started when Reed heard from rival coaches in Syracuse that there was little soccer talent up north. Reed then hand-picked players to provide more exposure to the athletes in the area and is now holding open tryouts to field an additional team.

"Anybody will get a look who wants a look," Reed said. "You just have to be a very committed soccer player."

Tryouts will be held from 9-11 a.m. today at Indian River high school in Philadelphia. Prospective players are asked to bring a ball and report 10 minutes prior to registration.

The league will re-start in late November and continue through August of next year. The U-15 team will compete in the YMCA indoor league and the Northern New York Youth Soccer League.

For more information, contact coach Reed (778-7247, 578-2876).
