HAMMOND — The Town Council will have a public hearing Aug. 18 on the proposal for a wind farm ordinance.
A wind energy committee formed last summer collected lots of information and talked with several wind turbine experts to help them craft the proposed law.
The council in February enacted a 240 day moratorium on the construction of wind energy facilities within the town. The moratorium measure banned issuing permits for construction of wind turbines.
A wind power developer recently proposed 50 turbines in the town. PPM Energy of Portland, Ore., proposed the 100-megawatt project that could cost an estimated $200 million.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Hammond Central School District gym, 51 S. Main St.
