CARTHAGE — A state police detail designed to curb sales of alcoholic beverages to underage people scouted out 13 business places Wednesday evening, and found only two offenders, including a 77-year-old woman.
Police said the Underage Drinking Initiative targeted convenience stores, liquor stores, pharmacies and supermarkets in Carthage, West Carthage and Great Bend.
Sales to underage persons resulted in charges of unlawfully dealing with a child and prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage against Helen M. Ormiston, 77, of 40 N. Broad St., Apt. 105, West Carthage, at Porter's Liquors, 507 Alexandria St., and Samantha A. Buthe, 21, of 514 S. James St., at Valero's Sun Up Food Store, 16 Bridge St., West Carthage.
No violations were observed in four Carthage stores: Mike's Quick Stop, Kinney Drugs, Rite Aide and Carthage Market; five West Carthage stores: Nice N Easy, Twin Villages Liquor, Rite Aide, Stewart's Shop, and P&C Foods; and two Great Bend stores, Sugar Creek and Stewart's Shop.
