ELLISBURG — A woman tried to stop two men who came to repossess a car Wednesday, and the vehicle wasn't even hers, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
Jewel A. Gilbert, 40, of 15189 County Route 193, allegedly threw a bolt cutter at one of the men, Robert M. Fritzen, 56, Camillus, which cut his abdomen, deputies said.
She also struck his partner, Joseph D. Abbass, 43, Constantia, in the face, knocking off his sunglasses, according to the sheriff's office.
Ms. Gilbert was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, and is summoned to appear in town of Ellisburg Court.
The disturbance developed about 11:30 a.m., when the men, employees of Extreme Auto Recovery, Clay, attempted to repossess a 2004 Chrysler registered to Amber Kidder, 15155 County Route 193.
Upon encountering the resistance, the two men retreated across the road and called 911 for assistance. After a deputy arrived and investigated, the men were able to proceed with the repossession.
Sgt. Joseph F. Cullen Jr. of the sheriff's department said the presence of law enforcement was strictly to keep the peace, and not to assist in the repossession, which is a civil matter.
