Man indicted on a charge of sex abuse

CANTON — A Massena man was indicted Thursday on charges of offering alcohol to two girls at his home and inappropriately touching one.

Daniel J. Zera, 47, of 133 Allen St., was indicted by a St. Lawrence County grand jury on a count of first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree forcible touching, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree unlawful dealing with a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He allegedly touched a girl's breasts and buttocks July 21 at his home. He is accused of waking the girl by grabbing her arm and pulling her out of the room and showing her a pornographic video. He also is accused of giving the girl alcohol and offering some to a second girl in the home, according to the indictment.

The grand jury also returned indictments against the following:

Matthew J. Ramsdell, 34, of 39 Waverly St., was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. He is accused of kicking Potsdam village police Sgt. Kevin Bates in the face July 24 after police responded to a domestic incident at his home. He kicked at and spit toward other officers in front of three children, according to court documents.

Kinnith A. Pittbaugh, 23, of 53 North St., Madrid, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny for allegedly stealing a 2008 Jeep Patriot on June 2 from a driveway at 107 Market St., Potsdam.

Gary J. Sharlow, 25, of 5 Hamilton St., Waddington, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree reckless endangerment for allegedly ramming his vehicle April 17 into one owned by Matthew W. Barkley, age and address unavailable. Mr. Barkley was standing next to his vehicle when it was rammed, according to the indictment.

The grand jury also produced a sealed indictment.
