CANTON — A Massena man has rejected claims of offering alcohol to two girls at his home and inappropriately touching one.
Daniel J. Zera, 47, of 133 Allen St., pleaded innocent Monday in St. Lawrence County Court to single counts of first- and second-degree sexual abuse, second-degree forcible touching, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree unlawful dealing with a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Zera, wearing a salmon dress shirt with a blue tie and khakis, strongly answered, "Yes" to a series of questions from the judge during his arraignment.
He allegedly touched a girl's breasts and buttocks July 21 at his home. He is accused of waking the girl by grabbing her arm and pulling her out of the room and showing her a pornographic video. He also is accused of giving the girl alcohol and offering some to a second girl in the home.
County Judge Jerome J. Richards issued protection orders for the two girls. Zera remains free on $50,000 bond. His defense attorney is Charles B. Nash.
Zera is the owner of Back To Back Gymnastics School in the St. Lawrence Centre mall, Massena. The girls were not students of the gymnastics school.
