A woman is jailed because she "was just having fun" Saturday night when she decided not to stop for a patrol car, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Jennifer J. Blackwell, 51, Brownville, had just turned from Route 12F onto Route 180 shortly after 10 p.m. when Deputy Victor M. Rodriguez attempted to halt her convertible. He said he had a radar reading of 53 mph on her car in a 30-mph speed zone.

The motorist did not stop, and instead led the deputy on a run that followed Water Street, Canal Street, William Street and finally County Route 53, where she turned into Breezy Knoll Trailer Park, he reported.

When he confronted Ms. Blackwell, he said her explanation was, "I was just having some fun."

Her car had no license plates, however, nor was it insured or inspected, he alleged in summonses. The deputy also charged her with third-degree unlawfully fleeing, failure to comply with police orders, reckless driving, making an improper signal, making an unsafe start, failure to keep right and unsafe passing.

She remained a prisoner Tuesday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, with bail set at $500 by town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky.
