A Watertown man was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to three years in state prison for trying to sell drugs in the city.
Samuel H. Rodriguez,33, no fixed address, also will have to undergo three additional years of supervision upon his release from prison for a July guilty plea to third-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance.
He was accused in a grand jury indictment handed up in April of conspiring with others to sell cocaine on two occasions in December and January. He was also ordered Tuesday to participate, if eligible, in the state prison system's Comprehensive Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

Justin P. Bennett,28, Fort Drum, was sentenced to six years' probation and ordered to register with the state as a Level 1 sex offender for a June 4 guilty plea to second-degree sexual abuse.
He was accused in February of subjecting a 23-year-old woman to sexual contact while she was asleep because of intoxication, according to police documents.
Amy J. Simser,29, of 145 N. Mechanic St., Carthage, was sentenced to three years' probation, fined $2,000 and had her driver's license revoked for July guilty pleas to second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and aggravated driving while intoxicated. She was accused of aggravated DWI on May 10 on Pearl Street in Watertown.
Cody J. Lacomb,21, of 43639 Lewisburg Road, Natural Bridge, was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service for a June 13 guilty plea to third-degree criminal mischief.
He and a juvenile were charged with smashing a plate glass window Oct. 31 at 43991 Route 3, Natural Bridge. He also was ordered to pay restitution of $187.50, or half the cost of the replacement window.
Joseph T. Deusser,27, Watertown, pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Sentencing was set for Sept. 22.
He was accused of having cocaine May 11 at his apartment at 368 Franklin St. and of having a rifle with a defaced serial number. He was not supposed to have the weapon because of a prior felony conviction.
Brian K. Denehy,32, of 14587 County Route 75, Sackets Harbor, pleaded guilty to seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Sentencing was set for Oct. 20. He was accused of having cocaine and prescription drugs Feb. 4 in a room at Ramada Inn, 21000 Route 3.
James M. Lavancha,30, no fixed address, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and admitted violating probation. Sentencing was set for Sept. 22.
He was accused of selling a rifle that had been stolen from John J. Pisonneault, Watertown. At the time, he was serving three years' probation imposed in April 2007 for a February 2007 guilty plea to petit larceny for stealing items from vehicles. According to court documents, he violated probation by failing to comply with inpatient substance abuse treatment and by continuing to use drugs.
Theresa J. Elwood,53, of 341 Keyes Ave., Apt. 1, pleaded guilty to felony DWI. Sentencing was set for Oct. 20. She was accused of DWI on June 7 on West Main Street in Watertown.
