ADAMS — Looking to provide fitness for the whole community, South Jefferson Physical Therapy will open a fitness center next door to the therapy facility Aug. 27.

Joel H. Grimshaw, co-owner and physical therapist, said there's been community interest in a fitness center for some time.

"It was the next step — to have a facility for community members," he said. "For a lot of clients here, we let them join a maintenance program, but it's getting too busy to do that."

The center will be next to the physical therapy office in the South Jefferson Plaza south of South Jefferson High School, near Rod's Big M.

"The physical therapy office isn't large enough to serve the whole community and treat our patients, too," he said. Now, they can respond to the community need that is a natural extension of physical therapy.

"We've been wanting to do this for a while," Mr. Grimshaw said. "We recently had the opportunity to rent the space nearest to us."

The center will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.

There will be staff members to show people how to use the treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, free weights and weight machines.

Day passes will be $8, monthly memberships $50, and yearly memberships $420 for one person and $630 for a couple. The center will be open to those ages 16 and up and will be available to those 12 to 15 with adult supervision. Children under 12 should not lift weights.
