CANTON — St. Lawrence University's athletic program finished in the top 50 of the U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup final standings for Division III in the 2007-08 academic year. The Saints were ranked 44th overall.
A total of 306 Division III schools were represented in the Director's Cup, which is based on points earned in NCAA postseason tournaments. St. Lawrence placed 25th overall in the spring. They compiled 348.25 points from the success of women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's rowing, women's tennis and women's track and field.
The Saints racked up 132.75 points in the winter based on the NCAA tournament appearances of the women's basketball, women's indoor track and field and men's indoor track and field teams. Sports without NCAA postseason tournaments are not counted in the standings. SLU did compete nationally in riding and in men's and women's squash.
■ St. Lawrence announced the hiring of Kaela Schramm as an assistant coach to the men's and women's track and field teams.
Schramm was a three-year captain and an All-American hurdler at Macalester College (Minn.). This past spring, she served as an assistant at Bethel University (Minn.), coaching the hurdles and jumps.
