ARRAIGNED FRIDAY: She denies passing drugs to son in jail

LOWVILLE — A Harrisburg woman was arraigned Friday in Lewis County Court on charges that she passed drugs to her son while he was an inmate in the county jail.

Denise R. Sweeney,45, of 7196 Beetle Road, pleaded innocent to charges of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, first-degree promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana. Her case was adjourned to Sept. 19.

Mrs. Sweeney was charged June 28 with passing two plastic bags containing marijuana and 12 diazepam pills to her son, Joshua.

Also in Lewis County Court Friday:

Richard J. Cronce,41, Route 3, Watertown, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, also satisfying a charge of failure to dim headlights. He subsequently was entered into the county's Drug Court program, with sentencing adjourned for one year. Mr. Cronce was stopped June 21 on Pine Grove Road in the town of Greig.

Andrew C. Murphy,27, of 7034 W. Main St., Port Leyden, was arraigned on charges of fourth-degree grand larceny and petit larceny and pleaded innocent. His case was adjourned to Sept. 5. Mr. Murphy was charged May 5 with stealing oxygen and acetylene tanks and cutting torches, owned by Albert Loomis, in the town of Lyonsdale.

Robert D. Grimm,19, of 7308 Moose River Road, Port Leyden, had sentencing on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief adjourned to Sept. 5. Mr. Grimm was charged March 14 with helping to cause $5,275.36 worth of damage to air-conditioning units at Lewis Lanes on North State Street in Lowville.

Peter J. Scheer,20, of 4045 Markham Road, Lyons Falls, had sentencing on charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny adjourned to Sept. 12.

Mr. Scheer was charged with taking $146 on Jan. 2 using a credit or debit card owned by Stephen Scheer, $60 on Jan. 15 using a card owned by Charlene Scheer and $90 in cash from Hannah Scheer, all in the town of West Turin. He additionally was charged Jan. 24 in the town of Croghan with possessing marijuana and a container with cocaine residue in it.

Jeremy E. Boliver,31, of 7107 Beech Hill Road, Lowville, had his felony aggravated driving while intoxicated case adjourned to Sept. 5. Mr. Boliver was stopped April 24 on Mechanic Street in Croghan.
