MALONE — The Malone Moose will send a strong baseball team to the New York State Tournament this weekend in Binghamton after sweeping four games and smacking 13 home runs last weekend in Syracuse.

Coached by Allen Marshall, the group of 11- and 12-year-olds kicks off the eight-team state tournament at noon Saturday against host Binghamton before taking on Syracuse I at 4 p.m. Malone wraps up round-robin play at 10 a.m. Sunday morning against Syracuse III. The top two teams from the two brackets will advance to the semifinals Sunday afternoon, with the winners playing for the championship on Monday.

Last weekend, Malone beat Syracuse I 7-4, then Tanner Rascoe and Brad McKinney combined on the shutout of Syracuse II in a 10-0 win. On Sunday, Billy Newcombe and William Coleman combined to allow just five runs as Malone routed Syracuse I 19-5. In the final game, Malone pounded out 14 runs and Alex Johnson, Justin Stevens and Brandon Buska teamed for a 14-5 victory.
