CANTON — Republicans and Democrats are looking for candidates to run for two positions on the village Board of Trustees.
Democrat Stephen M. Putman is expected to run for re-election. However, Democrat Jesse C. Coburn, who was appointed a trustee by Mayor Charlotte C. Ramsay, is stepping down. He cited commitments to his family and to his new job as principal at J.W. Leary Junior High in Massena.
"It's been a pretty fun, rewarding year," Mr. Coburn said. "Down the line, it would certainly be something I'd entertain again."
The Democratic caucus will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the municipal building.
"It's wide open. There's no definite prospects yet," said Klaus D. Proemm, Democratic committee chairman.
David P. Curry, a former Republican trustee who ran against Ms. Ramsay for mayor, wouldn't commit to interest in another term on the board.
"I'm undecided," Mr. Curry said. "I might be."
Republican Committee Chairman David T. Button will schedule a caucus soon.
"I've had a couple of people contact me about the possibility of running," Mr. Button said. "We'll see if they show up for the caucus."
Michael C. Crowe, a Democrat, is running for village justice, and Cathleen E. O'Horo, a Republican, is running for town justice. Neither is expected to face opposition.
