POTSDAM — St. Lawrence University men's soccer captured the Lotto Classic championship with a 1-0 win over SUNY Fredonia on Saturday at Clarkson University.

Dan Marvin scored unassisted in the 90th minute for the Saints (2-0 overall). Emilio Coletta made four saves for St. Lawrence, which shut out both its opponents in the tournament.

Tom Cavanaugh made six stops for Fredonia.

CLARKSON 3, JOHNSON & WALES 1

Clarkson scored three unanswered goals to defeat Johnson & Wales University in the second day of the Lotto Classic.

Clarkson's Seni Makinde tied it at 1-1 near the end of the first half. Cale Samuel and Elliot Carter scored the last two goals in the second half for the Golden Knights (1-1).

Scott Kirchner scored for Johnson & Wales.

SUNY POTSDAM 4, CAZENOVIA 1

The Bears came back from a one-goal deficit at halftime with four goals in the second half to defeat Cazenovia in a first-round game of the SUNY Potsdam Bears Classic.

Brandon Kelley scored twice, Dylan Reed added a goal and an assist, and John McCloskey also scored for the Bears.

WELLS 3, SUNY CANTON 0

Justin Rigney scored two goals to lead Wells College past the Kangaroos in a first-round game of the SUNY Potsdam Bears Classic. Alioune Sene also scored for Wells.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

ST. LAWRENCE 2, FREDONIA 0

Lizzie Bogosian scored once and assisted on the other as St. Lawrence University defeated SUNY Fredonia in the opener of the Lotto Classic in Canton.

Megan Howard netted the first goal in the 11th minute. Bogosian added the insurance goal in the 63rd for the Saints.

WILKES 4, CLARKSON 0

Jessica Gannon scored twice for Wilkes in the first round of the Lotto Classic in Canton.

Katy Fissel and Julissa Reed scored the other two goals for Wilkes.

FIELD HOCKEY

ST. LAWRENCE 3, UTICA 2

The Saints hung on to a 3-0 first-half lead to defeat the Pioneers in a nonconference game in Oneonta.

Jennifer Stetson, Michell Verrochi and Taylor Vogt all scored for St. Lawrence University (1-0). Emilie Lannamann made 10 saves for the Saints.

Katie Kutas and Hayley Coon each scored unassisted goals for the Utica College.

VOLLEYBALL

SLU TAKES FIRST

St. Lawrence University defeated Union and Clarkson to capture the Red Dragon Invitational championship at SUNY Oneonta.

The Saints downed Union in three sets, 25-19, 25-13 and 25-21. They needed a tie-breaking fifth set to beat Clarkson in the championship.

Jessica Lucky and Abby Rose shared tournament MVP honors for St. Lawrence (4-0).

CLARKSON RUNNER-UP

The Golden Knights had a winless second day at the Red Dragon Invitational in Oneonta.

After beating Utica easily in day one, the Pioneers returned the favor in straight sets in day two. Clarkson lost all three 25-17.

Clarkson then lost in five sets to St. Lawrence in the championship, dropping its overall record to 2-2.

SUNY POTSDAM WINS PAIR

SUNY Potsdam got back to .500 on the season with wins against Utica and SUNY Oswego on the second day of the Red Dragon Invitational.

The Bears easily downed the Lakers, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-12 before needing four sets to beat Utica.

Potsdam (2-2) lost only the fourth set in the match with the Pioneers.

CROSS COUNTRY

SLU MEN, WOMEN WIN

Tupper Lake native Wendy Pavlus and teammate Johannah Ludington finished one-two as the St. Lawrence University women picked up an 18-41 win over SUNY Plattsburgh in a race in Plattsburgh.

SLU's men also finished first in a three-team competition in Plattsburgh with 24 points. SUNY Plattsburgh had 33 and SUNY Canton finished with 85.

Steve Kiplagat finished second overall to lead the Saints, and teammate Terrance Fox was third. SUNY Canton was led by a 15th-place finish from Justin Forth.
