While reading the Watertown Daily Times on Tuesday, Aug. 26, I saw the Northern New York section of the paper which showed a large photo on B2 with several children "enjoying" the use of a trampoline. How ironic is it that this particular day just happened to be the eighth anniversary of my son's funeral. He passed away three days after falling awkwardly on a trampoline. He was a responsible adult whose accident left many people grieving.

It seems as if the Watertown Daily Times reporters can't travel past a trampoline in use by children without taking a photo. Many of these particular photos have been published over the years.

Each time I wished that the adults who purchased the trampoline were totally informed of how dangerous this form of recreation is. Using the "surround safety net" doesn't solve the probable injuries that can be caused. I hope the Times will choose better forms of children playing to post in their paper.

Please, parents, think twice before allowing your children on the trampoline — for their benefit as well as yours. Believe me when I say from personal experience that losing a child, at any age, is a hole in your heart that is beyond measure.
