A short while ago your newspaper reported that Copenhagen's school athletic director of 25 years, Scott Connell, has taken a position with South Jefferson.

My reaction upon reading this was one of shock and dismay. How could this be? Mr. Connell has been such an integral leader and educator within the school. He has been a powerful example, guide, and role model for countless children, including my own. His dedicated service to the students at Copenhagen has not only benefited them but our community as well.

Could our administration and school board have done anything to dissuade Mr. Connell from leaving? I don't know, but I intend to find out. Surely they would have done all in their power to retain someone of his caliber.

In the meantime, my congratulations to South Jefferson. You have just hired one of the finest educators in our area.
