With the regular racing season completed at most area speedways, the focus now is on special races.

At the Mohawk International Raceway, the pro stocks take center stage on Saturday night with the top drivers in the division competing.

"This is one of the closest divisions in racing," said promoter Jody Swamp. "It is the most competitive and the most exciting division to watch on a race track."

Some of the top names, including Swamp, are expected to compete Saturday night. Among others expected to compete are: Gilles Godard, Joey Ladouceur, PJ Peters, Allen Peters, Stephane Lebrun, Louis Jackson, Rick Thompson, Pete Stefanski, Denis Gauvreau, Dave Papineau, Dion Oakes, Don Carlson, Don Barnes, Bruno Cyr, Jocelyn Roy, and Roch Aubin.

The 21st running of the Bears Den 25 will be held with a twist this time around as the Run-What-Ya-Brung modifieds will compete for a top prize of $1,200. The semipros, bandits and enduro cars also will compete at the raceway.

THUNDER ALLEY

The SUNY Canton street stock series returns to the speedway Friday night in Evans Mills. The winner of the 40-lap feature will collect $1,500.

The SUNY Canton Mr. Gaebel Dirt sportsman shootout is also on the race program with $800 to win if 30 cars start the feature. The mod lites, and thunder cars also will be on the race program.

At 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the speedway will hold the SUNY Canton pit stop challenge. The winner will receive a 24-foot enclosed trailer and $400. A 75-lap enduro will be held with the winner collecting $1,000.

CAN-AM MOTORSPORTS PARK

The SUNY Canton street stock series highlights the race program on Saturday night at LaFargeville. The 30-lap feature winner will collect $1,500.

The SUNY Canton Mr. Gaebel Dirt sportsman shootout will pay $800 to win if 30 cars start. Racing also will be held in the mod lites, IMCA modifieds, pure stocks and thunder cars.

ADIRONDACK SPEEDWAY

The speedway concludes its racing season on Saturday night with a full schedule of racing. The late model and light truck divisions will have additional features for all non-feature winners. All drivers in the divisions who have not won a feature event in the past five years will compete for their first win.

The LAMOT Late Models of Holland Springs will visit the speedway for a special demonstration. The series strives on lowering the cost of asphalt late model racing.

Last weekend's program, sponsored by Hi-Lite Markings of Adams Center, was held in memory of the late James (Jim) Manzer, a former starter at the speedway, who died in February of brain cancer. Jim's wife, Joan, was on hand for the festivities in her husband's memory. Also Jim's flagging partner on the starters stand, Wayne Hall, was in attendance as a guest flagger for the race program. Assisting Hall was starter Chris Brass.

This concludes the weekly Local Auto Notes for the season. The notes will appear periodically from October until May.
