CANTON — More than two dozen Democrats at a caucus Thursday picked incumbents as their candidates for village justice and trustee but failed to come up with a nominee for a second trustee position.
However, a vacancy committee of Democratic Chairman Klaus D. Proemm, Anne Monck, and J. Bradshaw Mintener will try to find a candidate by the Sept. 16 deadline.
The unexpected vacancy was created when Trustee Jesse C. Coburn, who has taken a job as principal at J.W. Leary Junior High School in Massena, decided not to run.
Democrats chose incumbent Stephen M. Putman as their candidate for the other trustee seat. Village Justice Michael C. Crowe, the incumbent, was tapped as the Democratic choice to return to the bench.
Republicans will caucus Thursday.
