Paller scores pair in Massena shutout

MASSENA — Kristen Paller netted two goals to pace Massena to a 4-0 Northern Athletic Conference Central Division girls soccer triumph over Canton on Thursday.

Paller scored first in the ninth minute and again in the 55th for Massena. Allie Flaro and Alannah Darling added one goal each for the Red Raiders (2-1 overall, 1-0 division).

Kacie Wentworth stopped 17 shots for Canton (1-2, 0-1).

HARRISVILLE 3, HEUVELTON 0

The Pirates jumped on the Bulldogs early, scoring all three goals in the first half of a West Division game in Harrisville.

Mary LaPlatney scored the first off an assist from Katlyn Hart. Leah Malbeuf scored the final two goals less than three minutes apart for Harrisville (3-0, 1-0).

Casey Donnelly made eight saves for Heuvelton (2-1, 0-1).

VOLLEYBALL

CHATEAUGAY 3, POTSDAM 0

The Bulldogs easily handled Potsdam, 25-8, 25-13, 25-5, in an East Division matchup at Chateaugay.

Danielle Swanston led Chateaugay (1-0) with nine points, three aces and nine kills. Annie Smith added eight points, 11 kills and two digs.

Kristy Huczel had two points and four kills to lead Potsdam (1-1).

GIRLS SWIMMING

LOWVILLE 61, WEST CANADA 38

Ashley Panowicz had a hand in four victories as the Red Raiders opened their Frontier League season with a road win at Newport.

Panowicz captured the 50 and 100 freestyles, and swam a leg on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays for Lowville (3-1, 1-0 league). Rachel Kaban (200 free, 200 free relay), Nicole Birchenough (200 individual medley, 200 medley relay), Cassie Bush (diving, 200 free relay), Courtney Dicob (100 backstroke, 200 medley relay) and Michelle Haapala (100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay) each won twice.

NEW HARTFORD 105, WATERTOWN 73

Aubrey Kettrick provided the only victory for the Cyclones (0-1) in the 50 freestyle during a nonleague loss at Watertown High School.

Abigail Max (200 IM, 100 freestyle) won two individual events for New Hartford.
