CAPE VINCENT — Works of local quilters will be highlighted at the Celebration of Quilts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Cape Vincent Recreation Park.
The free event features 60 to 70 pieces of work by 30 local quilters.
Elisabeth P. Brennan, the organizer of the event, said the show will display everything from baby quilts to couch pillows.
Ms. Brennan, a board member of the Cape Vincent Arts Council, said the event was "the first fabric type thing that the Arts Council has done."
Also at the show, three local quilters will be demonstrating three different quilting techniques throughout the day:
■ Jan Stevens: Batik, an ancient dyeing technique using wax to resist dye.
■ Irene Paulus: English paper piecing, an old quilting method dating back to the early 19th century.
■ Verna Mason: Cathedral window quilt, which is a complex origami-like quilting method using several layers of fabric to make jewel shapes.
