PLATTSBURGH — Becca Townsend and Lauren Sischo scored goals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Western New England in a semifinal game of the SUNY Plattsburgh Tournament Friday night.

The Saints (3-0) will play SUNY Plattsburgh in the championship game at 7 tonight. The Cardinals beat Norwich 1-0 in the other semifinal.

SLU outshot Western New England 13-1.

CLARKSON 1, HILBERT 0

Cait Markes scored off a pass from Ariana Czech just one second before halftime to give the Golden Knights (1-2) a win over Hilbert College in a nonconference game in Hamburg. Cait Spaeth made four saves to shut out Hilbert (1-2).

MEN'S SOCCER

ROCHESTER 3, ST. LAWRENCE 0

J.J. Dennstedt scored two goals to lead the Yellowjackets past St. Lawrence University (2-1) in a nonconference game in Rochester. Clif White also scored for Rochester (2-0-1), and Michael Peacock made five saves for the shutout.

SUNY GENESEO 2, CLARKSON 0

Colin Begy and Jason Tartick scored second-half goals to lead the Blue Knights past Clarkson (1-2) in a nonconference game in Geneseo. Mike Madarasz made one save for SUNY Geneseo (1-2). Mike St. Croix stopped six shots for Clarkson.

CLARKSON, POTSDAM WIN PAIR

The Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam squads each went 2-0 on the opening day of the North Country Invitational at SUNY Potsdam. St. Lawrence University went 1-1 on the first day of the tournament.

Clarkson picked up a 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 win over SUNY Oswego in its opening contest, led by seven kills from MacKenzie Cook. The Golden Knights (4-2) also picked up a 25-15, 25-13, 25-13 win over Regis College, with Megan Mahon picking up eight kills.

SUNY Potsdam (4-2) recorded a 25-13, 25-10, 25-9 win over Word of Life and a 25-17, 25-22, 25-20 win over Buffalo State. The Saints (4-2) opened with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-10 win over SUNY Plattsburgh but were swept 25-23, 29-27, 25-14 by Rochester in their second match.

SUNY CANTON CANCELS SEASON

The school announced Friday that due to a lack of players that it would not compete this season. SUNY Canton was scheduled to compete in a tournament in Elmira this weekend.
