ALEXANDRIA BAY— River Hospital welcomed an osteopathic physician to its staff Tuesday.

Dr. Aaron D. Huizenga comes from Muskegon, Mich., where he had practiced medicine at Muskegon Family Care since September 2006.

He was an intern physician at Mercy General Health Partners, Muskegon, from August 2003 to July 2004 and completed his residency there from August 2004 to July 2006.

Dr. Huizenga received a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign in 1996 and his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo., in 2003.

River Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ben Moore III said Dr. Huizenga is going through his orientation and settling in quite well.

"Everyone is getting to know him," Mr. Moore said.

Meanwhile, the village hospital continues its search for another primary care physician, either a family practitioner or an internist, he said.

There are also a number of surgeons who have expressed interest in using the hospital's ambulatory surgery unit. Those physicians would become members of the medical staff as private practitioners, Mr. Moore said.

Dr. Huizenga is accepting patients at River Community Clinic. To make an appointment, call the clinic at 482-2094.
