Watertown native Julie Merchant and Henderson native Jim Burr are two of seven honorees selected for the SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame.

Merchant is one of six former athletes who will be inducted Oct. 18. Burr was selected an honorary inductee and also will be honored during the homecoming weekend.

Merchant was a standout for the Oneonta field hockey team from 1980-83 and set what was then a school record for career goals with 46 and points with 109. She remains in the top five in Oneonta history in both of those categories.

Last fall, Merchant coached the Western Albermale high school field hockey team to the Virginia state title and won state coach of the year honors.

Burr played for the Oneonta men's soccer team in 1964 and 1965, recording the second-most saves in the history of the men's program by stopping 27 shots against Brockport as a freshman. Burr has since become an NCAA men's basketball official and has officiated in the sport since 1972. He's officiated in 16 NCAA Final Four games and seven championships, more than any other official in school history.
