CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Housing Council will have an open house to honor departing Executive Director Christopher R. Rediehs.

The event, which is open to the public, is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the council's 19 Main St. offices.

Mr. Rediehs will take over in November as commissioner of the county Department of Social Services. He joined the council in 2006.

The nonprofit agency will administer more than $2,885,000 in state and federal housing improvement grants next year because of successful applications under Mr. Rediehs's time as director. Aside from its housing-improvement work, the council manages more than 200 apartments in eight locations throughout the county.
