Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville will complete its 2008 season Wednesday with the Mr. DIRT 358-modified Super DIRT Series. The event, which will get under way at 7 p.m., is part of Super DIRT Week, where most of the events will be held this week at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
The race is 75 laps. Can-Am also will hold the Mr. DIRT sportsman series and the Empire State IMCA series races.
SUNY Canton, which has sponsored the street stock series and the Canton/M.R. Gaebel sportsman shootout, has added something extra for sportsman drivers. The first Can-Am regular to cross the finish line will collect $400. The sportsman series race will be a 30-lap feature event with the winner taking home $1,000. The IMCA modified series winner will collect $500.
MCCREADIE IN THE BOOTH
Tim McCreadie won't be in the pits preparing to drive a race car this weekend at Syracuse. Instead, the Watertown native will be high above the speedway as a color commentator during Saturday's small-block championship race and on Sunday for the big-block race.
"I'll be working for Dirtvision for Saturday's small-block race and on Sunday for the Speed Channel for the big-block feature," McCreadie said last week.
It will be back to racing after his debut as a color commentator. McCreadie plans to pick and choose some late model dirt races for the remainder of the season.
JOHNSON WINS AT FULTON
Danny Johnson tuned up for Super DIRT Week by winning the Schneider Brothers 200 for big-block modifieds Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway.
Brett Hearn finished second with Pat Ward, Dave Camara and Ryan Phelps finishing in the top five. Frankie Caprara of Watertown finished 10th, while Tim Fuller was 36th in the 40-car starting field.
On Friday night, Brandon Sweet of Watertown finished sixth in the sportsman series race.
■ Tim McCreadie was not a factor in the outcome of a late model race Saturday night at The Rock, Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, Md.
McCreadie finished last after he was involved in an accident on the first lap. Josh Richards of Shinnston. W. Va., who won the 30-lap race, was also involved in the accident. Richards and Ricky Elliott touched in turn two on the opening lap, sending Elliott into a spin in which his car careened off of McCreadie's car. Elliott would finish 32nd and McCreadie 34th.
SUPER DIRT PIT STOPS
Brett Hearn comes into this week's Super DIRT Week at Syracuse looking to end the drought, but at the same time leads in the number of wins in the Rite Aid 200 modified championship race. Hearn hasn't won the race since 1995, but his five wins is the most by any driver since it began in 1972. Gary Balough and Billy Decker each have four wins. ... During the past 36 years of the racing, no less than 407 drivers have qualified for the Rite Aid 200 starting grid.
