HERKIMER — Taylor Dziekan, Kirsten Dziekan and seventh-grader Andrea Peters each won singles matches Tuesday as the Beaver River girls tennis team triumphed, 4-1, in a Section 3 Class C first-round match.

Amy Wormwood and Olivia Cornell teamed up to notch a doubles victory for Beaver River (11-2).

IMMACULATE HEART CENTRAL 5, BISHOP GRIMES 0

Sophia Gullo hung on for a second-set tiebreak win to beat Bishop Grimes's Nicole Delino 7-5, 6-6 (7-3) for a singles victory in the Class C tournament at Watertown High School.

The Cavaliers (9-4), who won each match, play Utica Notre Dame in the next round at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Utica Parkway.

ALEXANDRIA 3, CANASTOTA 2

The Purple Ghosts (7-7) swept singles play on their way to a victory during a first-round match of the Class C tournament at Canastota.

The win set up a match with Lowville in the next round.
