WHITESBORO — Sherman Nelson raced 58 yards for a touchdown on a screen pass from Clay Nutter with five minutes to play Friday night as Carthage posted an historic 28-21 Section 3 Class A National victory over rival Whitesboro.

Beating the Warriors for the first time ever on Whitesboro's home field, Carthage (4-2 overall, 3-1 league) moved into a three-way tie for first place with Whitesboro and Camden with one game left to play in the regular season.

Nelson, who finished with five receptions for 136 yards, also snagged a 50-yard TD pass from Nutter in the second quarter. Nutter completed 8 of 13 passes for 196 yards.

Jolyon Davis, who rushed for 132 yards on 24 carries, contributed a 12-yard TD run, and Pat Gibbons scored on a 2-yard run. Andrew Davis kicked all four extra points.

Gibbons, Homer Dobransky and Keith Harley led the Carthage defense. Tyler Beyor recorded a key sack on the next to last play of the game with Whitesboro (3-3, 3-1) on the Comets' 20-yard line. A fourth-down pass was broke up.

IMMACULATE HEART CENTRAL 21,

SANDY CREEK 6

The Cavaliers' season-long shutout streak came to an end, but their winning streak continued as they defeated the Comets in a Class D West game in Sandy Creek.

IHC (6-0) had not allowed a point all season, a streak stretching five games, until Koby Fowler scored for Sandy Creek (3-3) in the fourth quarter.

IHC quarterback Tom Burgess scored on runs of 82 and 4 yards and finished with 94 yards on seven carries. Antonio Doldo also scored for the Cavaliers and finished with 90 yards on 13 carries.

OFA 22, SARANAC LAKE 0

Tylor Stevenson scored twice including a 75-yard punt return to help give the Blue Devils a Division II West Division win over previously undefeated Saranac Lake in Ogdensburg.

Jared Morrow completed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Zach Giglio for OFA (6-0, 3-0). The Blue Devils clinched the top seed in Class C.

Saranac Lake has the No. 2 seed and is now 5-1, 2-1.

INDIAN RIVER 53, CANTON 19

Curtis Dukes, Corey Brown, Jarrod Peck and Ryan Maniscalco scored two touchdowns apiece as the Warriors topped the Golden Bears in a Northern Football Conference Division I game in Philadelphia.

Dukes ran for 201 yards on 13 carries, Brown recorded 71 yards on seven carries, Peck finished with 62 yards rushing and 55 yards receiving and Maniscalco caught four passes for 72 yards for Indian River (6-0, 3-0).

Aaron Pierce ran for a pair of touchdowns for Canton (0-6, 0-3).

TICONDEROGA 34,

TUPPER LAKE 6

Steven Lanheart scored twice on long runs to give the Sentinels a dominating Division III win in Tupper Lake.

Lanheart finished with 33- and 29-yard touchdown runs and totaled 90 rushing yards for Ticonderoga (3-3, 2-1).

Ian Smetanick scored on a 60-yard pass from Zach Meade for Tupper Lake (4-2, 1-2).

SETON CATHOLIC 14,

ST. LAWRENCE 6

The Knights won their first game of the season in a nonleague contest in Plattsburgh.

Kaleb Gohlke connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Andrew VanDenBusch for the clinching score for Seton Catholic (1-5).

Eric Deshane scored on a 29-yard run for St. Lawrence (0-6).
