A fast-moving fire destroyed a town of Rutland home late Sunday.

The Rutland Fire Department arrived at the farm of William H. Hickox, 15400 Hickox Road, at about 10 p.m. to find it engulfed in flames. Mr. Hickox, who was in the home when the fire broke out, was not injured.

The home is at the end of the gravel, dead-end road and firefighters had to haul water about a quarter a mile from Jacobs Road to reach the structure.

In addition to Rutland, departments from Tylerville, Copenhagen, Watertown and Felts Mills were at the scene, with other departments on stand-by.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
