CANTON — Carefully looking through the colorful pillows stacked neatly in a row on the top shelf, Margaret Cole grabbed one near the end.
"I do a lot of Adirondack themes and children's ones," said Mrs. Cole, holding a pillow with a scenic river design. "Crafting is very relaxing for me."
The Chase Mills resident was among about 20 vendors Sunday showing off their handmade items in the Crary Mills Craft Show over two floors at the Crary Mills Tri-Town Community Center on Post Road.
She started making pillows, aprons, towels and blankets about a dozen years ago as a way to pass time. Her table was covered with numerous blankets featuring a variety of themes, from sports teams to animals. She also created a large blanket using recycled denim jeans.
"I love fabrics," said Mrs. Cole, taking a break from quilting panels. "There is just a hodgepodge of items on the table."
Across the room, Canton resident Sally Hill had her table covered with floral arrangements with an autumn theme. The arrangements centered around sunflowers and several of them were placed in ceramic pumpkins.
"It's very relaxing," she said. "It helps takes some of the stress off."
She enjoys showing off her floral design to shoppers and seeing people with similar interests in crafting.
"It takes a lot of work to put this together," said Mrs. Hill, who organized the craft show. "This is like an extended family here."
Consumers were offered a variety of crafts, including quilted blankets and pillows, wooden figures, jewelry, homemade candles and other items. Homemade soups, hamburgers, bread dough, cinnamon buns and drinks were available to hungry patrons.
Upstairs, shoppers were greeted by a variety of pillows, some stacked four high, with various designs and themes. The themes included children's shows, scenic outdoor landscapes and Elvis Presley.
The funds raised will go toward the Tri-Town Community Center and Crary Mills Presbyterian Church.
