GLENS FALLS — The Chateaugay volleyball team advanced out of pool play and into the state championship match by defeating Candor and Haldane in one-game playoffs on Saturday.
The Bulldogs will play Portville, which didn't lose a game in pool play, for the state Class D title at 10 a.m. today at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Chateaugay split with Haldane in their first match, 15-25 and 25-19. Then, Portville beat the Bulldogs 25-16, 25-20. Chateaugay rallied to split against Candor, losing the first game 25-13 and winning the second 25-20 to force a three-team playoff.
The Bulldogs defeated Candor 25-9 for the right to play Haldane. Chateaugay (24-4) then eliminated Haldane with a 25-20 triumph to guarantee at least a second-place finish in the state tournament.
