The following people were charged by area police with driving while intoxicated or related offenses:

■ Raymond H. Smith Jr., 41, Camden, was charged Saturday by state police with felony DWI, first-degree criminal contempt, second-degree aggravated harassment and numerous other traffic offenses after leading police on a 30-mile chase through the towns of Richland, Mexico, Albion and Parish.

Police said they were seeking Mr. Smith for allegedly sending threatening communication and text messages to an unidentified woman in the town of Parish in violation of a valid order of protection. Mr. Smith was found in the area of Peck and Centerville roads in the town of Richland operating a Chrysler PT Cruiser previously reported stolen to the Oswego County Sheriff's Department, police said. A pursuit followed.

After being apprehended, Mr. Smith was arraigned before Richland Town Justice James H. Ridgeway and sent to Oswego County jail, Oswego, without bail.

Additional charges are pending with Oswego County deputies, who assisted in the pursuit.

■ Duane P. Dibble, 31, of 113 Lisbon St., Heuvelton, was charged Saturday after state police received a report of a vehicle hitting several mailboxes on Route 812 in the town of Oswegatchie. Troopers found Mr. Dibble getting out of his car in a ditch about 5 miles from the mailboxes.

He also was charged with failure to keep right, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving across hazard markings and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.

His blood alcohol content was 0.17 percent. State law establishes 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication.

■ Paul E. Price, 45, of 192 County Route 46, Massena, was charged Saturday by state police with felony DWI, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, failure to take breath screening test, failure to use designated lane, not wearing a seat belt, speeding and having an open container of alcohol.

Troopers said Mr. Price was found walking down County Route 46 after his vehicle went off the road as he tried to turn from Route 37C.

Mr. Price was arraigned in Massena Town Court and ordered held in St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $2,500 bail.

■ Nicholas S. Amberman, 22, of 1172 River Road, Norwood, was charged by St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies at 2:09 a.m. on Pleasant Street in the village of Potsdam.

Mr. Amberman also was charged with driving while using a cell phone, resisting arrest, refusal to take a breath test and aggravated DWI. The legal requirement for aggravated DWI is a BAC of at least 0.18 percent.

Although Mr. Amberman did not take a breath test at the scene, he took one later at the station, deputies said. His BAC was 0.20 percent, deputies said.

■ Raymond S. Beutel, 39, of 239 St. Mary St., Watertown, also was charged by Watertown police with tailgating and second-degree obstructing governmental justice after rear-ending another vehicle at 1:55 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Arsenal Street. Mr. Beutel allegedly refused to take a chemical test, provide personal information or be fingerprinted during booking at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown.

■ Nicholas J. Smith, 22, Brushton, also was charged by Potsdam village police at 2:11 a.m. Sunday with having inadequate exhaust and failure to keep right. Police said he was seen on Maple Street accelerating rapidly with an inadequate exhaust and crossing a yellow line.

■ Andrew J. Davis, 22, Clayton, was charged by state police at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on Route 12 in the town of Clayton.
