OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg Library has appointed a new director.

Wayne L. Miller, of Franklin County, will begin at the position Dec. 18.

"He had a strong background in a variety of different library positions," said Linda S. Griffin, a member of the library board of trustees and head of the search committee. "He seemed the strongest and most appropriate."

Mr. Miller is working in the Malone Central School District as a librarian and media specialist. He previously lived in the area and is familiar with Ogdensburg, Mrs. Griffin said.

The search committee has been looking for a new director since September, she said .

Nine people applied for the position and four interviewed. The board approved the selection Thursday and the city accepted the choice Friday.

The appointment was a unanimous vote, Mrs. Griffin said.

Mr. Miller will replace David A. Franz, who had been the director since 1986. Mr. Franz left in October and Marc Boyer, the reference and adult services librarian, held the post in the interim.

Mr. Miller told the library board he looks forward to coming to Ogdensburg.

"I hope that by joining an already strong public service organization I can contribute positive energy as this community repositions itself for success in the 21st century," Mr. Miller said.
