FINEVIEW — A Baldwinsville resident was killed Saturday afternoon when her vehicle collided with a dump truck at county routes 191 and 100 on Wellesley Island.

State police said Susan J. Higginbotham, 58, inadvertently put her 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup in the path of the 1978 Autocar three-axle dump truck driven by Marcus W. Vachon, 30, Wellesley Island, while trying to go east on Route 100 from Route 191 at about 1 p.m. Mr. Vachon, troopers said, was headed west on Route 100.

Troopers said Mr. Vachon's vehicle struck Ms. Higginbotham's pickup on the driver's side door. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, Jean A. Lindsey, 82, who lives in both Cicero and Wellesley Island, was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Police said Mr. Vachon was not injured.

Ms. Higginbotham owned a home at 47197 County Route 100, about four miles from the accident site. Police were assisted at the scene by state park police, Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service and Wellesley Island and Alexandria Bay fire departments.
