FORT DRUM — According to data collected by the Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization, there have been an additional 468 housing units certified for occupancy in Jefferson County since the beginning of the year.
That is 76 more units than in 2007; one fewer than in 2006 and 16 more than in 2005. There will be more units available by the end of the year, according to the group, as apartments in the Summit Woods development in Watertown and apartments in the village of Carthage finish construction.
Over the past three years, since the housing crunch began because of Fort Drum's expansion, 1,781 new units have been made available in Jefferson County. These units include single-family houses, multi-family houses, mobile homes and rehabilitation that resulted in new units.
