LOWVILLE — Lewis County Office for the Aging is settling into its new home in the old county jail on South State Street.
"As long as the ghosts don't bother us, we'll be OK," Director David L. Bush said.
The 10-person department moved from its former location in the county office building on outer Stowe Street last week, but staffers spent most of the week arranging their new offices on the first floor of the two-story building.
The office's main telephone number, 376-5313, is unchanged.
County Highway Department offices remain on the second floor of the old jail, which was replaced in 1990 by the Public Safety Building on outer Stowe Street.
The new Office for the Aging provides staff members with considerably more space than they previously had.
"We actually have a private office for counseling," Mr. Bush said. "It's kind of a unique place. It's one of the old cells."
The department plans to keep using the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County's conference room on outer Stowe Street for large gatherings.
