BELFORT — A former dairy farmer from Belfort plans to make a second run for Croghan town supervisor.

"I just feel the town needs strong leadership that's fiscally responsible," Democrat Todd H. Lyndaker said.

"We need to hold the taxes down any way we can. I am vehemently opposed to big government."

Current Supervisor John G. Jones defeated Mr. Lyndaker in 2007 to earn a two-year seat. However, Mr. Jones, a Beaver Falls resident, has decided not to run for a second term this year.

No other town residents have thus far picked up nominating petitions for the position, according to Lewis County's election commissioners.

Party designating petitions must be filed at the Board of Elections office between July 13 and 16.

Candidates who wish to run on an independent line may begin passing those petitions July 7 and must file them between Aug. 11 and 18.

If elected, Mr. Lyndaker said he would listen to constituents' concerns and attempt to control costs while maintaining necessary services.

"Though I'm running as a Democrat, I'm not a supporter of the party system," Mr. Lyndaker said.

"I feel a person should be elected for who they are and what they'll do, not for what party they're from."

Mr. Lyndaker, whose daughter, Tara, has taken over the family farm, said he also supports the agriculture and timber industries.

Prior to running for supervisor two years ago, Mr. Lyndaker unsuccessfully ran five consecutive times — the first three times as a Republican — for the District 1 seat on the Lewis County Legislature against the late Legislator L. Kelley Dickinson, R-Harrisville.

Mr. Dickinson died earlier this year.

Mr. Lyndaker is a former member of the Beaver River Central School District board and a member and past president of the Lewis County Maple Producers Association.

"I have no agenda," Mr. Lyndaker said. "I just feel I could do a good job as the leader of the town."
