Miss Thousand Islands volunteer feted

The Miss New York Scholarship Organization named Shelby Cohen of the Miss Thousand Islands Organization as the volunteer of the year.

According to the scholarship organization, Ms. Cohen has been with the Miss America Organization for 18 years.

Ms. Cohen, who lives in Owego, competed in the 1999 Miss Thousand Islands Pageant, and was named first runner up.

She is an account executive at Todd Martin Public Relations, Binghamton.

The Miss New York Scholarship Organization's goal is to provide educational and career opportunities to young women of the state of New York through scholarships and other services.

Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
