This week's edition of Pro Hockey Notes is a bit abbreviated.
Also, before I get into the notes, here are the three stars from Saturday's 2-2 tie with Harvard (things were a bit hectic Saturday night so there was no post-game update)
No. 3: Louis Leblanc, Harvard. Scored a goal for the Crimson and had seven shots on goal.
No. 2: Mark Borowiecki, Clarkson. Borowiecki assisted on both Clarkson goals and finished at plus-two. Coach George Roll moved him to forward in the third period and said he was a key player at forcing turnovers.
No. 1: Paul Karpowich, Clarkson. For a second straight night Karpowich was the best player on the ice, stopping 41 of 43 shots.
Now, onto the NHL notes:
Jones enjoying LA
Despite a loss to his ex team, the Philadelphia Flyers, defenseman Randy Jones has been enjoying his time with the Los Angeles Kings.
Kings coach Terry Murray, who worked with Jones in Philadelphia, is also happy to have him, as he told the Philadelphia Daily News, "It was really a no-brainer on my part of it, to have the opportunity to get him . . . because of knowing him so well. He can play. He's an NHL defenseman. I know that."
Jones, who is now 28, said, "There was a comfort level. "[Murray] knows me and and I know how he coaches. It eases the tension coming in when they know how I play. They play hard-nosed hockey here."
Weller a Strong Leader
OK, ECHL stuff was supposed to run last week, but there wasn't much news on Clarkson's NHL guys this week and I stumbled on this story on Bakersfield.com about Shawn Weller.
Weller was traded from the Ottawa Senators organization to the Anaheim Ducks in the offseason. Because Anaheim has no AHL team he wound up playing for the Bakersfield Condors and has become the team's captain.
"He's been very professional," said Condors coach Marty Raymond of Weller to Bakersfield.com, who is captain of the team. "He's certainly a great leader of men. This is a group of guys who are certainly going in the right direction and Shawn is a part of that process."
Added Weller on his new role, "I try to lead the team in the right direction. I'm a young guy (23). There are guys like AI (Andrew Ianiero) who have been around a while that guys look to for leadership. All I can do is try to lead by example and direct the team in the right direction."
This Week's Goal
Erik Cole had the only goal by a Clarkson alum this week, scoring this one with three seconds left in the third period against Toronto on Thursday:
