OVERTIME

It's amazing this game isn't 3-3 or 4-4. Both goalies played sensationally tonight and into overtime. St. Lawrence has controlled the extra frame for the most part, but still can't sneak one by Scrivens.

-

no penalties in the third period and no goals. St. Lawrence is gassed though. Cornell looks pretty exhausted too. Should be interesting.

Third period notes

Things have slowed down considerably here in the third period, and Cornell appears to be controlling zone time and the pace.

Still no Flanagan, he is done for the game.

Second period impressions

Easily the most entertaining hockey period of the season. Both teams are fighting hard and the intensity is unreal. Lots of big hits, lots of big penalties... and a Saints goal. St. Lawrence is clearly exhausted though after that period. Several players just dropped to their knees as soon as the horn sounded. We'll see who comes out fresher, but this game has the makings for a true classic all the way through. The fans rose to their feet to applaud the efforts of both teams.

The kind of hits I'm talking about — Watch the upper left part of the video.

Second period notes

SLU kills off the penalty. This is by far the most intense and heated period St. Lawrence has played.

St. Lawrence fails to score on a 5-on-3 for nearly five minutes. Now Keller goes to the box for two minutes and Cornell will have a one-minute penalty.

McKenzie comes out of the box!

Double penalties, McKenzie and Nash two minutes each. Nash took McKenzie to the ground.

Power play goal Vermeulen

Finally a penalty... this one against Cornell again. It's Joe Devin to the box.

Penalty killed.

A cheap shot caught Curran in the chin. Nash to the box for two minuts.

First period impressions

Things got a little chippy at the end. St. Lawrence got hosed on a few calls and the officials are hearing it from the crowd right now. McKenzie was called for offsides after he faked one shot and controlled the puck for a good three seconds. The Cornell goal came after a fairly clear hooking infraction against Cornell that was again not called. This is two nights in a row of poor officiating, but St. Lawrence came out on top last night.

Trailing here, the Saints do look like the better team. They are flying all over the ice and could easily have two or three goals if they caught a break. The closest they've come is a shot off the post by Curran. Max Mobley several good chances early on, but Scrivens has been excellent in net, as has Tisi. The only goal came off a rebound. Unlucky break for the Saints, but I don't think they can be too displeased with the way they played this period.

The biggest question is the status of Kyle Flanagan, who left midway through the session with a knee injury. Unofficial word is that he's done for the game at least. Another big setback for the Saints. Jared Keller, Aaron Bogosian and now Kyle Flanagan are out.

Sean Collins got the goal for Cornell.

First period notes

Goal Cornell 18:59

Drewiske goal WAVED OFF says he hit it in with his hand. Great time for those goal cams... but they aren't in use yet. Illegal use of the hand.

Curran hits the post!

Great glove save by Tisi. His stellar play continues.

Mobley is all over the ice for St. Lawrence, very active and a lot of energy. He's making some good things happen even if SLU doesn't get a goal.

Flanagan heads straight to the locker room after banging knees. We'll keep you posted.

Mobley fires three nice shots on net, but three good saves and we're still scoreless

Cornell a little slow to start this one, already both goalies have taken a shot off the mask. Kind of a strange start to the game.

The energy just during opening announcements is high inside Appleton. Best atmosphere since the Clarkson game. It's nice to see some students trickling in too.

-

Just got into a Appleton — a little earlier than yesterday — and there are few changes from yesterday's lineup for the Saints.

Kyle Flanagan, Jeremiah Cunningham and Mike McKenzie will start as forwards, and Jeff Caister and Derek Keller will be the opening blue liners. Once again, for an encore performance, Kain Tisi will start between the pipes.

Cornell has 12 players sick with severe colds and the flu. They wanted to push the Clarkson game to Sunday, but that couldn't happen and now St. Lawrence might get a little break against the No. 9 team in the country. Cornell hasn't listed its starters yet, and will wait to close to game time to do so. Coach Mike Schafer wants to see how his team feels and some of the questionable players feel to make a final decision.
