Helmer guides St. Lawrence to key win over Salmon River

FORT COVINGTON — Brady Helmer scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the St. Lawrence Central hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Salmon River in a Northern Athletic Conference Division II game Wednesday.

Jack Keenan also scored for the Larries (12-6 overall, 8-2 division) and Zach Baldwin provided two assists. Kevin Davie scored for the Shamrocks (7-7-2, 5-4-2).

POTSDAM 4, ALEXANDRIA 0

Evan Drummater stopped 24 shots to lead the Sandstoners past the Purple Ghosts (6-8, 3-7) in an intradivision game in Potsdam.

Dakota Ford, Ryan Merriman, Greg Burkum and Seth Adams scored for the Sandstoners (10-7-1, 6-3-1).

OFA 6, TUPPER LAKE 0

Chris Harper, Andrew LaBeau and Quinn Rufa each played a period in goal as the Blue Devils blanked the Lumberjacks (2-15, 1-11) in a Division II game in Ogdensburg.

Anthony Pirier, Erik Whitcombe, Brandon Mullin, Drew Hilborne, Eric Sweeney and Dustin Harper scored for the Blue Devils (9-4-2, 8-1-2).

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 9, MALONE 4

Alex Ploof supllied three goals and one assist to lead Norwood-Norfolk past Malone (2-13, 0-9) in a Division II game in Malone.

Chuck Wagstaff also scored three goals for the Flyers (9-7, 7-3). Thomas Plumb, Tyler Murray and Josh Tiernan also scored for Norwood-Norfolk.

Jared Marshall led Malone with two goals and an assist with Justin Simpson and Mitchell Vanier each supplying goals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

GOUVERNEUR 49,

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 45

Storm Blackburn scored 16 points to send the Wildcats past the Flyers (10-10) in a nonleague game in Norwood.

Lee French and Alex Bush each added 11 for the Wildcats (6-9). Jesse Williams led the Flyers with 19 points.

TUPPER LAKE 41, ST. LAWRENCE 40

Jacob Klossner hit a 3-point basket with seven seconds left to give Tupper Lake (6-8) a nonleague win in Brasher Falls.

Klossner finished with 19 points. Cody Kilcoyne and Ryan Cole both scored 12 for the Larries (12-5).

COPENHAGEN 62, LAFARGEVILLE 44

Blake LaBarge's 17 points guided the Golden Knights to a Frontier League "D" Division victory in LaFargeville.

Josh Spaulding and Chris Kellogg each added nine points for Copenhagen (10-6, 8-6).

Garett Robbins drained five 3-pointers while scoring 24 points for the Red Knights (3-13, 2-12).

WRESTLING

CLIFTON-FINE 36, CANTON 28

Jon Eibert (189 pounds), Cole Tristram (215) and Jacob Demmon (135) won by pin to lead the Eagles (7-7, 6-2) past the Golden Bears in Star Lake. Cody Cleveland (171) won by pin for the Golden Bears (4-4).

GOUVERNEUR 57, MALONE 13

The Wildcats had five wins by pin in a victory over the Huskies (0-8) in Malone. Brendan Ward (135), Zach Cummings (152), Darren Fuller (215), Zach Ayen (112) and Austin Fuller (125).

SANDY CREEK 71, APW 6

Kris Shirley recorded his 180th career win with a pin in the 145-pound weight class to highlight the Comets' interdivision victory at Sandy Creek.

Fellow senior Andy Blanding also won by pinfall for Sandy Creek (25-5, 9-2), which registered seven pins.

IHC 46, WATERTOWN 21

Jaden Grill (140 pounds) recorded the Cavaliers' only win by pinfall in an "A" Division victory over the visiting Cyclones.

Aaron West (152) also won for IHC (12-9, 5-6).

Chris Williams (103) and Dylan Justice (145) recorded pins for Watertown (0-25, 0-12).
